Importing Content

Clicking the Import Content button opens up the frontendAdd dialogue. Using the dialogue you can paste links, specify which content type it is and select which playlist to send it to. You can see an extensive overview on the Importing Content page.

Importing Content via Backend Add

Tethyr Admins can import more file types and databases of content via a tool on the backend of Tethyr. If you have a special request please contact us and we will help you import what you need to.

Importing Content via Frontend Add

The way that users import content into Tethyr now is the Import Content dialogue on the user interface. To open the Import Content Dialogue you click the import content button / icon.

The steps for importing content via the fontend add tool are:

  1. You paste or drag a link into the text box
  2. You select what type of content the link is
  3. TYR evaluates the link to see if it is something that can be imported
  4. If TYR can import the link the “Add to Playlist” button will turn from grey to black (become clickable)
  5. You select which playlist and where in the playlist you would like to add the content using the Playlist Dropdown.
  6. You click the Add to Playlist button and the content is added to that playlist.
Note: You may have to refresh the playlist (by switching away from it and back to it on the playlist header bar) to see the content.

Frontend Add: By Content Type

On the frontend add tool there is the content type selector the sections below give insight on the variances in each.

Video

You can paste a video link or drag a link or thumbnail into the search box. The video selection currently works for the following platforms:

Youtube

Works very nicely. You can only drag a thumbnail from youtube into the text box, don’t try to drag the video from a playing video into the search box it won’t work. But you can right click the youtube video and select “copy video url” and then paste that into the text box.

Facebook Videos / Facebook Live

To get the link of a video right click the a playing FB video and select “get url at current time” then paste that link into the text area.

Vimeo

Works nicely, supports drag and drop of thumbs

Twitter Video

Works, you may need to manually enter title and other data.

Twitch

Works nicely, supports drag and drop of thumbs. Archive and live channels come in with different icons, so they are easier to distinguish.

Daily Motion

NA

IBM Cloud Video

Not available via frontend add

Wistia

Not available via frontend add

Podcasts

TYR supports all podcasts to import them you have to paste the xml link into the search area. You can do that by clicking the “rss chicklet”  and pasting that link into the text area. If that does not work click on the chicklet, go to the following webpage and get the url link of that page and paste that link into the text area.

Podcast Directories

You can use the below links to find podcasts:

HTML / Webpages

TYR supports any websites that have the appropriate settings on their end. Generally we have found it to be simpler websites that work in TYR. If TYR can’t import the webpage the “add to playlist” button will not activate.

Why some sites work and some don’t

Generally site security settings decide whether a site can be imported or not into TYR. For this reason , the edit dialogues of websites generally won’t work inside of TYR. For example you may be able to load your personal wordpress install into tethyr but if you click login on the wordpress install you will get an error. In this case simply click the WWW button and open that site in a new window (outside of TYR) and complete your task.

Site Categories that work

  1. WordPress
  2. Google docs that have the permission set to “link to view”

Specific Websites that work

The following webistes have successfully been imported into Tethyr.

  1. Wikipedia
  2. Routers.com
  3. Dictionary.com
  4. binsearch.info
  5. The Associated Press
  6. Politico.com www.politico.com
  7. https://www.onthisday.com/ On This Day
  8. Medium.com

Cloud Docs

Google Docs / Slides / Sheets

To import a google doc you paste the “share link” into the text box. You need to set the sharing settings of the document to “anyone with the link can see”. If the sharing settings are not correct the button won’t become active.

Cryptpad

Still Image

To import a still image into TYR you need to host it on the internet first using an image host.

Pending Feature: In the future you will be able to upload directly to TYR from the frontend Add

Other image hosts that work with TYR

Other image hosting sites that work with Tethyr: Imageshack.com : is not as quick as use.com , but it looks great, it does require a subscription and might require a paid subscription. postimages.org : you can import the images but but the uploader page. To import the images copy the “direct link” ( second link ) after you upload your image and paste it into the Import content panel and select html.

Andmoor Video

Andmoor is Tethyr’s own video hosting site, it is an add-on of Tethyr which means that it stands on it’s own as a service but works best inside the Tethyr platform.

Known Bugs: Currently Andmoor videos do not import properly.
